Article 12 – Salvation

1. Salvation is the work of God
   1. Heb. 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
   2. See also Eph. 2:4-5 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
   3. Eph 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
2. In which He reconciles fallen men to Himself
   1. Col. 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
   2. Rom. 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
3. Ultimately removes the consequences of the curse
   1. Rev. 22:3a And there shall be no more curse:
4. Bestows upon His redeemed Creation
   1. Rom. 8:18-25 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.  For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
5. The riches of His grace, all to His glory
   1. Isa. 43:25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
6. Salvation is offered in the gospel to all men

7. Is accomplished in all the elect
   1. John 6:37 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
   2. John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
   3. John 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
   4. Acts 13:48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
8. It is received by grace through faith and the instrumentality of the Holy Spirit
   1. John 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9. Apart from works or human merit
   1. Eph. 2:8,9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10. Salvation centers in a person, Jesus Christ, and receiving Him
    1. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
11. Includes the remission of sins on the grounds of His shed blood on the cross
    1. Eph. 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

    1. 1Cor. 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
13. The reception of the Holy Spirit
    1. Rom. 8:9b Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
14. The impartation of eternal life
    1. 1Jn. 5:11,12 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
