Article 13 – Repentance

  1. Repentance unto life is a gift of God and a voluntary act of man.
    1. Rom 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
    2. Acts 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
    3. 2 Tim 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth.
  2. Accomplished by the convicting power of the Holy Spirit through the Word of
    God.
    1. Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
    2. Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent.
  3. Consists of a knowledge of sin and a sense of guilt/corruption.
    1. John 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
  4. Results in confession/forsaking of sin and a turning to God.
    1. 1 Thessalonians 1:9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God.
  5. Results in loving, obedient service.
    1. Ephesians 2:10 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God.
    2. 1 Thessalonians 1:3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father.
