Article XIV

Article 14 – Regeneration

1. Regeneration or the New Birth is an instantaneous creative act of God
   1. John 3:3, 6, 7 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
   2. 1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
2. Through the agency of the Holy Spirit.
   1. Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.
3. Whereby divine life is imparted to those dead in sin, making them members of the family of God.
   1. John 1:11-13 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
   2. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
   3. James 1:18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
